About Keema
Keema Echols, also known as GrandmaGoneWild, is a storyteller, entrepreneur, family historian, interviewer, golfer, content creator, mother of two, and grandmother of nine whose life and work center around connection, curiosity, reinvention, and preserving the stories that too often disappear within families and communities.
Long before social media, Keema was already documenting history. What began as a deeply personal journey through old family photographs, documents, and oral history eventually evolved into a rapidly growing platform centered around Black history, genealogy, cultural preservation, storytelling, and community conversation. Through GrandmaGoneWild, she shares vintage family photographs, historical discoveries, genealogy research, cultural commentary, and personal reflections that encourage people to ask questions, preserve memories, and reconnect with their roots before those stories are lost forever.
Keema is also the creator and host of “3 Minutes with Keema,” an interview series featuring entertainers, entrepreneurs, creatives, and everyday people whose stories deserve to be heard. The conversations are relaxed, authentic, and often deeply personal, offering viewers a chance to connect with perspectives and experiences that are frequently overlooked in traditional media spaces.
Entrepreneurship has been a major part of Keema’s life for more than 40 years. She previously owned and operated a national financial aid consulting company that worked with colleges and universities across the country, including America's largest private university. Her company specialized in outsourcing, operational support, and process assessment designed to help schools operate more efficiently and better serve students.
Over the years, she has owned multiple businesses across different industries, including an event venue and a natural parenting retail store co-founded with her daughter. Together, they launched what became the largest Black-owned cloth diaper brand in the country before ultimately closing during the COVID era.
Keema remains deeply involved in entrepreneurship through consulting, media, digital products, storytelling, and community-building initiatives focused on preserving history and helping others build meaningful legacies of their own.
Outside of her faith, family, travel, business and storytelling, golf has become one of Keema’s greatest passions. What started as learning something new later in life grew into a meaningful source of friendship, travel, confidence, lifestyle, and community. She is the founder of the DFW Elite Golf League, a growing golf community that brings people together through fellowship, shared experiences, and a love for the game.
Keema is also highly active on social media, where her storytelling style, honesty, humor, and deeply personal approach to history and family have attracted a rapidly growing audience across multiple platforms. Her content consistently sparks conversations around identity, memory, culture, genealogy, aging, reinvention, and the importance of preserving family history while the people who lived it are still here to tell it.
Her life experiences extend beyond business and social media. Over the years, she has appeared on multiple television game shows, including “The Newlywed Game,” “Supermarket Sweep,” and “You Bet Your Life with Jay Leno.” She was also a guest on "The Montel Williams Show". Most recently, she was a cast member on Season 1 of “Squid Game: The Challenge.”
At a stage in life when many people expect things to slow down, Keema has embraced reinvention instead. GrandmaGoneWild has has grown into a space where history, culture, curiosity, family, humor, resilience, entrepreneurship, and storytelling all come together around one core belief:
Everybody’s family has stories worth preserving.
